What are these 2 drains/plugs in the battery compartment (+part nr's?)

    Hi,

I have already asked the BMW dealer and they cant tell me what these two plugs/drains are in the bottom of the battery compartment. These are the two places where they come out at the bottom of the car:

The one ‘pass-thru’ is for the drain hose for the battery vent.

Ha, that put me on the right track, the vent is called a Cable Grommet, part nr : 61131357511

Apparently it is to vent hydrogen from the battery:

Im wondering if this is still necessary with newer batteries.
Apparently can get a hose with it too, to connect it to the battery?..: http://www.niparts.com/s_5895CF/61131357511.html

Still would like to know the name of the other one.

there are a lot of holes in the body sealed with plugs, that is to drain the chassis in the paint process https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JauUjmXlTPE&spfreload=5

Normally with the battery comes a drain hose, if case you have no drain hose and the battery is cooking, acid will destroy the paint and metal

If the battery have a vent hole and you dont have the hose you can buy a kit from most parts stores. I got mine at NAPA for about $6

A sealed battery will still vent if it is badly overcharged. It is nice to have a vent tube to finish expelling the explosion risk, out of the car.
