Thing with sport seats is that they are more supportive than comfort seats, ie. the side bolsters and knee/thigh supports. Arm rests can easily be added to these so I fail to see how they are any worse. From an aesthetic standpoint, they look 100x better than the comfort seats.

    To the OP,

Welcome to the 540i6 club. One thing with the seats is that the previous owner may have swapped the sport seats for non-memory comfort seats. If this is the case, your mirrors will not work because those are also controlled thru the memory module located under the seat. Easiest way to tell is to look for the 1,2,3 switch on the left side of the driver seat. There is also a red button next to the '3' button.

Hmmm I didnt know they were more supportive/had better bolstering. From pics to me they looked exactly the same aside from the armrests so I didnt get the point. Interesting to know, although I prob won't ever get around to that. My clownshoe is my sports car, the E34 tends to be the roadtripper and I've had no issues with the comfort seats even when I push hard or when I was at the tail of the dragon. If I did ever do it though it would be to swap to a black interior. The tan interior is comfier for the summer heat, but def uglier haha

Guys, seriously? Sport seats completely different. Different bolsters, different back support. They made of different parts and have different shape.
I'm doing pair for myself now. And currently my car has "comfort" seats.

Obviously extendable thight support is not for everyone but for me it is big deal. And sport seats fit me perfectly, my back doesn't like "comfort" seats. Can't wait to finish a project.

And armrests can be retrofitted, true. I'm debating if I should do it while I'm there. I rarely use it so..

I never cared for armrests so not having them is fine. I think sport seats looks better without the armrest anyway. My wagon has comfort seats they are not really supportive at all but they are comfortable to cruise in.

I think sport seats cost to much. I like armrests. If I come across a set in a junkyard of my pick and pull my car may get them, but I don't think 500$ per seat is the price range I am in. I will probably repair the seats I have now with the twist issue, as that should be cheap, and we can see how this car evolves.

Another thing is, I don't like the steering wheel, but BMW OEM wheels are pricey for what they are. I may go aftermarket there. Has anyone taking an SRS dash car, removed the passanger airbag and put something in its place? looks like it may be a good spot for some sort of something to go. I don't know if I want to track down a complete non airbag dash, but I know I want to get the bags out of this car.

I ordered new spark plugs, a new fuel filter, and window regulators yesterday. I set a record for this car and today is the second day this week I have driven the car into work instead of driving my X5! Yay e34! This car needs a sub for its sound system though, so that is on my list of to do

I'm selling a set for $450. They do need some work though.

For me personally sport seats needed for my back comfort. In a car I need just a few things (not in order): Manual, RWD, comfortable sitting position (steering, seat, pedals), decent audio.
I drive E34 about 30% of time and mostly it's because of seats. In this scheme of things - sport seats at $500 is not a big deal for me personally.

450 + shipping needing some work just isn't my thing. It might be different if I locate a set locally though. Shipping seats is expensive.

What did you replace those seats with?

I did not like the dried out look of the door panels and front seats and the rear seats were cracked very badly on top. I went and bought 85% of an interior from another 540i6 that was being parted and installed it all in my car.

the shipping is where it really burns me up. What I would end up investing in those seats to make them good I should probably just go with something new, or just keep my eye out locally. Thanks for the offer though, its very helpful.

But, you do have door panels you may want to sell? Mine are very poor currently, so it may make sense to get a better set, if the condition is not to bad.

new wonkiness to report. Sometimes the car will redline at 7,000, other times she will only see 6,500.

the other day riding into work the speedo was on but reading to low. The ride home it was fine. This happened when the redline changed, but the speedo was still working this morning, but again my redline today is only 6,500.

I found out that my car originally had sport seats. Do you want to send me pictures of the seats you have?
