This car is a brilliantrot 1991 BMW 325ix 5-speed, fully loaded. It has almost 290,000 miles and I am the 2nd owner. I've had it since 1997 and it has been 1/2 garaged and 1/2 outside. The paint is a bit faded, but polishes nicely. It has some small dents and scratches that are normal for a 27-year-old car. It has never been in a crash and has no rust. All of the interior lamps and gauge lights work, as do the controls and switches. I change the oil and filter with a Mann filter and Castrol GTX 10w-40 every 3000 miles. The car just passed the OR emissions test in December 2017 and is registered through December 2019. The car also gets Redline driveline fluids at factory-specified intervals.
Spec includes:
- Black leather interior (recently reupholstered driver's seat bottom with new factory seat heat element)
- Black dash with no cracks
- Premium sound (original BMW radio/cassette deck)
- Full size spare
- Ski pass-through
- Original heated seats
- Airbag
- Original BBS wheels (incl. spare)
- Full original tool kit
- Power windows and sunroof
The car has very few modifications. They are:
- Bilstein shocks
- Braided brake lines
- Drilled front brake rotors
- Stainless exhaust from manifold rearward
- ABS off switch
Recent service includes:
- Newly rebuilt cylinder head (valves, camshaft, rockers)
- New distributor cap and rotor
- New cambelt and tensioner
- New water pump
- New radiator
- New ignition wires
- Newly re-sealed transfer case
- Newer steering rack
- New leather and padding on driver's seat bottom with new OEM heating element
- New heater valve
- New clutch/pressure plate/throw-out bearing (<1000mi)
- Fresh Redline fluids in both differentials and transfer case
As with any old car, there are a few areas that need attention (or not). They are:
- A/C compressor - it hasn't worked for 15 years. I don't use it, so I never fixed it. It may just need to be recharged.
- Reverse lamps - they don't work because the switch is bad. It's on top of the transmission housing. It's cheap and easy to fix. I'm just a bit lazy.
- Transmission – it works fine, but whines softly in 3rd gear. It's old and likely could benefit from a rebuild.
- A/C blower fan – may be fan failure, but could also be a relay issue.
