I'm need to replace my windshield glass or glaze as BMW calls it. The part I'm looking at is part number 51318238668 Windshld, infrared, green wedge lamin green. I have a 2002 525 touring without the rain sensor. Will this fit and work with my touring? The reason I ask is because some sites such as BMW Atlanta say that part number is not applicable for my car.

Go to realoem and enter the VIN. Looks like it'll fit. Ask them why not.

Isn’t that the optional UV protection windscreen that costs like a grand? That option wasn’t offered on US E39’s.

Yes it is the optional UV windscreen and I saw in another thread that a user had put one in his 525 so since I'm in FL and any thing that will help keep the inside of the car cooler I wanted to get this one.
Atlanta BMW has it for $675.

Looks to me the issue they are afraid of might be rain sensor compatibility since the realoem page Ed posted seems to suggest that its for early US cars only. Do you have neither rainsensor or auto-headlights? If so then should be fine... if you have auto lights then you need to be sure it has the 'window' in it...

If I recall correctly, this is also called the climate comfort windscreen. I believe Stuck I stalled one in his 525 sedan build back in the day. He worked at a Texas bmw dismantler and a car came in with one.
Should install into your 525i touring no problem
