e34 m50 filter housing leak question

So, starting from the top to the bottom im fighting with leaks, next on the list is the filter housing gasket, how do i get rid of the oil in the filter housing so i can safely remove it without spilling it all over the engine? When the engine is cold and car has not been used for 1 day the filter is full of oil, even during oil change the oil stays in the filter housing and doesnt go down to the oil pan, but i supposed this can be caused by a clog somewhere. So, can i just take a hand pump and pump the oil out from the housing?
And, does anyone have a good tutorial with pictures with DIY?

You won’t lose much oil at all. I believe there is diys on internet, same as e36 m50 so a diy for e36 will work.

Might as well just change the oil. Draining the oil will drain it out of the housing. Most oil filters come with the gaskets too.

There is a very small oring at the end of the bolt that tightens the filter cover. I’ve seen them break and get stuck at the bottom of the housing. That might be your clog. Cheers, George

Or maybe it's just different on the m50. I was referring to the m30 hoping it would be similar. I would just us a turkey baster to get it out. Sounds like your best solution.
