A really bad day. need some feedback

So on Thursday my daughter got hit in her 740(she turned away so when the glass broke it did not get in her face). The car rolled up the fender, across the doors and flipped on its side. My daughter was stopped at a light, No one was hurt thank God.

So as you can see the fender is pushed in, the door is ripped apart, the windshield is broken and the A-pillar is damaged. I don't think the a-pillar is bent. So I expect that Allstate will total the car. I used a new app they have where you take photos and it sends it right to an adjuster. My brother who works in the business says its a big rip off. Some kid back east writes a low ball estimate with a bunch of crap parts and tries to get you to take the money.

The car only has 93,000mi and I'm sure a few of you know what we went through to get the car running well. So I'm thinking if they total it and the buy back is a few hundred I'll keep it and fix it. I have a brother and a neighbor that could fix the a-pillar and I can hang a fender and door. Otherwise I may try and sell it to someone for the drive train and get something else?

Glad your daughter is OK. Just wanted to throw this out there in case you will be looking for some parts/sheet metal. I've got a 95 parts car in Oxford Green with the parts it looks like you may need. I'm in Kirkland. Please feel free to contact me if I can be of help.

Definitely glad your daughter is okay!
You might luck out on this (assuming the other vehicle has insurance) and get it all back. I would probably share everything you did with Allstate so they can make some convincing arguments for repair on your behalf. Show the records and time and they should take your side.
Besides, how many other vehicles would be this safe?
As for the “appraiser out east”, here we say “appraiser out west”, ha ha!
Seriously, glad she is safe and hoping the best from your insurance.

My sister is a lawyer specially for car related accidents/injuries. When my old previous vehicle was totaled by a guy hitting me, his insurance company only offered me 1500 dollars for it after bringing it to the appraiser. My sister told me to not accept that offer and had me go online, collect any recent sales or current listings that proved the car was worth more (and any recent work I had done to the car). I screenshotted everything and e-mailed it to them (actually happened to be allstate). They didn't even argue with me, they gave me 4500 for the car when I told them that was a fair value and that is what I wanted. The total damage of the car was only around 1800, so I got it fixed and pocketed the cash lol.

So the TL;DR version of this, go on bring a trailer (or any site), find previous sold amounts for your car, find current asking prices for your car (withing similar mileage) and use that as your argument for the cars worth. You can always fight for more.

My 99 was almost totaled for a fender, bumper and minor hood damage. I ended up just replacing the fender and bumper, and leaving the hood as is.

I've had pretty good luck with the app claims, as a hint, sometimes dirt can look like a scratch - so always take the pics before you wash the car.

The insurance company's goal is always to pay as little as possible, so whether the estimate is done via pics or in person they only estimate damage that can be seen. If you actually fix the car, the body shop can go back and update things for 'unseen damage'. For instance my 95 325iC was hit in the rear bumper and the bumper struts were pushed in, causing the bumper to not sit flush. I pointed this out to the guy doing the estimate, and he said he couldn't authorize replacing them until the car was being repaired. So I took it home, took the bumper off, and then called (coincidentally) Allstate and they sent a claim adjuster out immediately to my house. I showed him the mismatch in body lines (bumper sitting forward an inch,) and then showed him the part (I had it set up so the bumper wasn't bolted on.) He tried to give me some line about a wear mark on the strut not being visible, but I pointed out that it was shoved IN due to the collision, so of course it shouldn't be visible. Then he sighed and cut me a check on the spot for the additional damage.

Glad everyone is ok. As everyone says, cars can be replaced. That definitely looks repairable. It would be worth a buy back

I agree about negotiating with the insurance company (and bout your daughter, of course.) Another example:

My '97 540i-6 was totaled 2 years ago. (Bent frame). It had 230,000 miles. The right rear quarter panel was a little dented and the clear coat was starting to peal on the roof and trunk. Didn't look so good but drove great.

At first the other guy's adjuster was going to give me just $2,000, but he could tell it was mechanically good. He said he'd take into account recent expenses, of which I had about $1,000 in parts alone.

After some discussion he offered $3,000 if they took my car for scrap; $2,500 if I kept it, which I did. (I've easily gotten more than that from the car in parts. And the tranny will go into my newer replacement 540-6.)

    Good luck!

Thanks for all of the feedback. It sounds like keeping the car would be the best idea. My daughter seems to want something different but is having a hard time finding something that is equal for less that 15-20k.

Well Allstate is going to total the car. My daughter was something else and I already have a project car. I hate to let a good low milage car get crushed. If anyone is looking for a fixer or a low milage drive train PM me. Other that the side and front glass being broken I would not hesitate to drive it.
