Hey so I recently (1 month) bought a 2009 BMW X3 with 64,200 miles on it from a private seller and all has been well until now. Today I get in the car and start it up when I put it in R I felt it shaking, same when I put it in Drive, the service engine soon light came on and stayed on as well. Definitely did not feel normal so I haven't drove it around. I looked around on some forums and keep seeing that it could be ignition coils and spark plugs. I'm wondering/hoping that this is the problem and not anything else as I paid a good amount. Wondering if the weather has anything to do with this as the past few days been 30-40 degrees and especially last night maybe down to 25. Perfectly fine yesterday and today start it up and it was shaking. Thanks for the help!
Also when i start it up it every time it tells me how many miles I need until an oil change, right now its at 250. I don't think that this has anything to with the problem and I when I got the car it was about 700 miles until oil change. I was going to let it go down to around 150 miles before I got that done. I was thinking that this was normal so I did not get the oil change done right away.

Cannot answer the shaking issue, but with out a history of maintenance done, the second thing that should be done to the new to you vehicle is to have the oil and other fluids with respective filters changed.
The car probably had just factory required maintenance done and to insure long and happy life with the BMW is to keep fluids and filters fresh.
It would also be helpful to members of this and other forums for you to obtain a BMW specific "code reader" such as iCarly so we can assist in the diagnosis. Guessing in the blind will produce junk results based on incomplete data.
Also find an independent BMW service center/repair shop so you can save a little on labor costs.

Probably a coil. Sounds like it's suddenly running on 5 cyl for some reason. A good code reader will be helpful to diagnose. Until then, maybe bring it by AutoZone or somewhere for a generic code read.
Hey guys thanks! It was 2 ignition coils, got them replaced as well as all spark plugs including oil change.
