    Gone, but not forgotten

2001 M Roadster that I bought in 2004 with 10K miles succumbed to Hurricane Michael; the car now with 44K miles. I had it in a garage, but the car was completely submerged in the storm surge. USAA gave me about $25K for it. I didn't drive it much on these boring Florida roads, but I was always smiling when I did get to drive north where some Dragon type roads were.

That’s a pretty big buyout. If you bought it back as salvage, couldn’t you get it back to a fun car with cash leftover?

From talking with automotive experts, you might be able to survive a fresh water dunking, but never a salt water bath. That picture with all of the growth inside? I took that shot about 4 days after the storm. Electronic issues would be the worst.

    Aww, so sad.

We have at least a couple of members here with experience in restoration of flood cars, but nothing like this. Salt water in 4 days ruined everything.

    Holy Mother of God!

She was a beauty. I'm so sorry to see that. That said, she was just a car. I have 4 friends who lost everything but their life in Harvey. Cars can be replaced. Hope you're doing OK otherwise.

So... Are you going to get another?

Wow, very sad, but glad you are okay. What is going to happen to the car itself? At least the body panels and wheels could live on.

Always nice to see another M.
Wish we had met before the incident.

I’d buy those roadstars. Gonna need a resurfacing and a respray.

If you're looking for a set of roadstars, I have a set that needs refinishing.

I've been looking everywhere for an OEM wind deflector, not sure if the one in that car is OK but if it is PM me and maybe I can take it off your hands before they haul the car away :-).

OEM with roll bars? If so, they are appear on Ebay regularly. There are three listed currently, two used for approximately $240, and one new for $305+. I've seen them sell for as little as $150. They are often missing the clips for the front but those are available on Ebay as well.

Hey Wayne - yes, with roll bars. I've been watching ebay pretty closely, I missed out on one auction by a buck at the last minute. The two used ones that are there have been there for a while, one has a tear and the other is missing clips and no mounting hardware. I'd like to know if anyone has purchased the aftermarket one that is sold out of Germany.

    Appreciate the help!

BillF..........could turn out to be like when as person signs to be a donor on their drivers license, that parts off your car will go to other M owners and keep them on the road. Sorry for your lost.

Bill, Thanks for the reply, once again sorry for your loss. More like losses. I'm sure the M wasn't the only thing flooded out, best of luck getting back to normal.
