So I have a no start on my e46 323ci. Here’s what I can say:
I just finished a m52tub28 swap on it, the engine was from a z3. I swapped the entire engine harness over including coil packs, but left all sensors as they were, except the crank position sensor, which was for sure working on the other car.
i have yet to put the software for the 2.8 onto the dme, I wanted to test it it started on the 2.5 tune and then flash it to make sure ews didn’t get bunked from flashing it.
it seems to have spark and fuel, as it will sputter, just not fully start.
one injector is currently very leaky, but it still maintains fuel pressure.
car was outside and some water did get in the electronics areas, but dme was not outside, and all fuses are still in tact after several start attempts, so I don’t believe that caused an issue.
any information would be of use. At this point I’d believe it’s the flash file, but I don’t want to switch flash files and bunk the ews and then not be sure because it didn’t start regardless
Edit:
sputters only when using starter fluid, so it should be sparking by that, however tested the injectors and it seems like they aren’t getting a signal, can’t seem to get them to open
Update:
injextors have voltage, but can’t test pulse, don’t have the equipment. Would assume since there’s spark that there’s no pulse. Very very stumped. Any input would be appreciated.
The injectors have power as long as the ignition is in either the run or start position. The engine computer (DME) provides a ground to an injector when the injector is supposed to “fire.” Check for power at the injectors.
Any codes?

There’s like 10 codes that I can check later today / tomorrow, but nothing for fueling or ews, just some random vanos and throttle body codes
Fresh motors can be cranky. Perhaps a few drops of oil down the spark plug holes would help. You may also have a piece of grit holding a valve off the seat.
Sounds like it's ready to run unless you have some DTC's that say otherwise. Something may have been left unplugged.
