    Hot Wiring The Horn

    Hi all, 1995 525i 5 SPD 281k

My car is up for inspection this month. I replaced the steering wheel but, haven't purchased the part that touches the metal part of the steering wheel for the horn. Is there a way to hot wire the horn so that when the inspector asks me to press the horn, all I have to do is touch two wires? I believe I have to wire the part because they don't make a plug-in part for my model, in which I will do in time but, for now, I would like to find out which wires I need to touch together to set off the horn.

    Thanks in advance.

Please, at least rig a button for this in case you actually need to use it.

you dont have a local mechanic that will just throw a sticker on it ? as long as everything else is up to snuff safety wise i would imagine it wouldnt be a problem.

I was disqualified from a CA driving test because my horn didn't work. It's officially a safety item.

The guy I bring it to is very lenient. I had an 18 inch vertical crack on my windshield last inspection and he passed it. In New York State the maximum allowable crack is 11 inches. He doesn't pull off the wheel to check the brakes and doesn't look for tire wear.
I don't like taking advantage. The least I can do it make sure the horn is functional. I don't think I have to pull off the steering wheel. I can just pop off the column covers and splice in the toggle switch. Then when the carbon pin comes in, I can adjust correctly for a permanent solution. I just need to figure out which wires are for the horn, since there are four wires that connect to a connector. I used to have the clock spring with the grey ribbon so, I need to trace the horn wires to splice in the toggle switch, or at the very least, make sure I can touch them together to activate the horn during inspection.
