Ok so I have a m52b28 now and I知 think about doing the Frankenmotor. I知 so damn confused on what to do. Like which crank do I use and what pistons and rods. Of course this will be turbo. I have a m50b25 in it with a copper spacer and cuteing headgasket but I have a broken ringland in it. Which sucks. But anyways. I want forged crank and rods of course. I just don稚 know what to use. The s52 crank or the s50. I知 confused on this. I know the m54 rotating assembly. But I知 not trying to run any factory pistons or rods. Sorry for the stupid question that has been porbably answered so many times. I知 just confused on what to use and I have been looking. I知 probably not looking at the right place. Sorry I知 advance.
On my m52 I am using s52 crank, 135mm k1 rods and custom pistons for this setup.
Where did you get your pistons from? If you don’t mind me asking.
Maximumpsi
S52 crank and m54 crank are the same part number. I can’t see any advantage or reason why someone would want to use an s50 crank unless you already had one. K1, Molnar, and Eagle rods are all fine, and pistons from wiseco, CP, JE. All of these are good parts so pick one and roll with it.
That’s where I am confused. I have a line on a s52 crank. But do I use any forged 135 rods and the piston would have to be custom built to what? That’s literally the question. Or should I just call maximumpsi?
I just messaged mike at maximumpsi. I actually ordered a cutring and spacer from him a while back for my m50.
All of the major piston makers have the specs for the M5x motors, so you just have to call them and tell them you need pistons for the bore and stroke you want with 135mm rods and whatever compression you want and they will make them. most of them also have some off the shelf part numbers for the common combinations for easy ordering. What compression and bore are you thinking you want?
I’m thinking stock bore and maybe 8.8 or 9
I found a guy selling Wiseco pistons. Part number ke115m845
Wiseco part number for that is ke325m84. Call whatever vendor you like and order them. I got a good deal on mine from real street performance.
if you do stock bore you’ll need to find a block with little to no ring wear (needs to be measured with a bore guage, presence of cross hatching means nothing) and it will need a dingle ball hone to freshen it up and get new rings to seat
I just contacted them. Gotta wait for Russ to come in. Thanks a lot man.
I think I’m just going to keep it 2.8 no point in just .2 displacement with almost double the cost just to gain that.
