So I’ve been working on ripping out the sound deadening in my car for 2 or 3 days now after work. I had luck with getting it all removed from the rear but am having a difficult time getting it out from under the seats. Is there something I can put on it to loosen up the adhesive? I feel like I’m gonna break my pry bar.
Also, is there something you guys are using to clean all the adhesive off the body? I’ve been using acetone which is working but with a ton of effort. Any help would be appreciated!

Heat it with a heat gun and scrape it off in big chunks. Then use xylene to wipe off the residue. You'll want plenty of ventilation.
Heat gun and a plastic scraper then an industrial adhesive remover for the residue
Yep heat gun and scraper. Then believe it or not, try spraying WD40 on the residue, cleans right off.
do not waste time with dry ice.
'93 e36. Heat gun ftw

Dope thanks guys. Guess I’m getting a heat gun

Just watching that vid, it leaves a lot of residue behind. A heat gun oddly doesn't. It feels like the heat gun releases the adhesive underneath.
I used a pneumatic air chisel....at least until I made about 3 more holes in the floor pan, which I then needed to fix
I used a heat gun and a putty knife. Mineral spirits to remove the remaining adhesive residue. Mineral spirits didn't seem to be as hard on the paint as something like acetone.

The off-brand stuff works too. I had a couple cans of Walmart "super tech" lubricant spray. Work just as well.
+1 for heat gun. I've tried the dry ice technique. It works but its more expensive and more time consuming. Heat gun works way better.
Tried the wd40 tonight but the paint thinner worked better

I did mine in the middle of Australian summer in a hot warehouse and it just lifted out.
Otherwise heat gun and plastic scraper.
There was only a little residue left which I removed with brake cleaner, it was the only thing I had handy and it worked.
If it's not too late refrain from walking directly on the material (With carpet removed).
It makes it very hard to remove after. I don't understand the concept but I sure noticed it...
I used a combination of dry ice and the heat gun. dry ice worked great, and left no residue. Heat gun is actually faster, but leaves a residue. Wiped it down with a gas soaked rag, and it cleaned up well though.
For the residue, mineral spirits works great.
This time of year, you can also be opportunistic and use cold weather. When I did mine years ago, I rolled it out of the garage and left it out during a 25 degree night. In the morning it all chipped up like peanut brittle. No residue either.
This.
Really depends on the consistency of the sound deadening however. On my E30, after a sub-freezing night, it chipped right off the next morning in nice sized pieces. On my Mustang, and on the E36's I've done this on, the heat gun seemed to do the trick quite well. I prefer WD-40 over mineral spirits as well. The heat gun makes enough stink from melting the tar, you don't need anymore.
Also, don't buy the Harbor Freight heat gun. It melts itself to death, and while doing so it absolutely stinks like burning plastic. Go buy the Milwaukee heat gun from Home Depot or similar from Amazon. Money well spent.

I had the best luck with a heat gun lightly warming if on my e36
