    E46 manual swap EWS, DME...HELP

I have almost completed the manual swap on my 2000 323ci E46. I am using parts from my wrecked 2000 323i parts car. My question is can i replace my EWS and DME from my parts car to skip having to code my car when its complete. I know i will also have to replace the key if i do this which is fine. Any help would be appreciated

You can, but it is quite a simple process to code whole vehicle to manual and reset adaptations on your current electronics. I wouldn't skip the last 5% of effort to make a perfect integration.

It actually takes longer to change out all the locks...

I am in with Abel not mentioning that in case you lose the keys, the solution might be much more expensive if you use donor dme/ews/key set. Just code it, it is worth the 5 minutes. Abel iss right, it would take you longer to swap the locks.

    +2.

Not that you need to hear from me, after getting the perfectly correct answer from the two exceptional guys above. But as Martin pointed out, swapping locks also leaves you with a car that you can NEVER buy a replacement key for, again.

Coding is EASY - your way is highly counterproductive, not to mention a P.I.T.A.

It is not just locks. The same is for the immo system. What will he do if the EWS fails? I am not saying it is not possible to solve, I am doing this almost daily... But I always am wondering why my work is required so much.

For example yesterday there was a guy from a city next to Prague, who lost the key from his E46. Let's now see the prices.

If you have no units and locks replaced with donor parts, you just go to the dealer and lets say you want a cheap solution. They will chargw you 70 bucks and you'll wait a couple of days for a key with no remote control, but opening the car and starting.

Option 2: You do not know that EWS/locks were replaced. You go to the dealer, spend 70 bucks and wait several days. The key does not work so you call someone like me. I will charge you in case ots just 50 kms far away (+-35 miles) 110 bucks for my travelling and time spent on road. USD 80 for opening the car with no damage. USD 60 for decoding the key. And then USD70-160 for a key, cutting and programming. As you lost all the keys, double the last amount because you will not want to have only one key again. 70+110+80+60+140 = 460 bucks. You can save 70 when you know that the key from the factory won't work and don't order it. You can pay less or much more on travelling of the locksmith.

So do as you like, swap units to avoid 5mins coding of the transmission. Be my guest.

You need to start your own thread. This is a current thread, and your issue has absolutely nothing to do with the subject. Just go to the top of this forum, and click on "Start New Thread"

As BMWDr says, you should start your own discussion that pertains to your particular issue and in the sub-forum that pertains to your topic. You have posted in the E46 sub-forum which is ideal. The Vendor Comment sub-forum, not so idea.

We ask that posting multiple copies of the same message be avoided, but if you wanted ask within this sub-forum, no one is likely to get upset. Try to select the appropriate sub-forum from the get go.
