newbie question:
I have two non working angel eyes on the drivers side. Trying to figure out if the rings themselves are the lights or is there a bulb that shines light into the rings.
I'm pretty sure i have the Bi-xenon lights. They are a bright crystal white and the car came with exec/premium/sport package. Is bi-xenon the same as LED lightning?
If it is the rings that need to be changed i assume getting into the headlamp assembly would be no easy task. ( any DYI videos out there)
If it is a bulb then there must be one for each ring and why would both go at the same time?
Is there one ballast (or power module) for both rings or is it a case if one goes the other goes too?
Or might it be a total software issue and i need the proper reader to get them on again.
On a side note i did notice condensation building up in that one headlight assembly.
Any info/links would be greatly appreciated.

It is not a bulb, it's an LED module that plugs into the headlight. You really should have the car scanned for errors, as it would tell you if there is a short, or a fault with something else than the module.
You do not have the LED headlights (facelift only), you likely have the bi-xenon.
Here is a breakdown of parts. You may be able to access it without taking too much apart, or not. I wouldn't depend on youtube, as they are usually wrong.

These are my lights. Can u tell me if they are Bi-xenon or LED or both.
Also have an issue with condensation in that one headlamp. May have attributed to the problem of a short.
My understanding is if there is a detected short then the FVM (im not sure what that is) will shut off power to that light module. Correct me if i'm wrong.
Is there any way to test for voltage in/out with a multimeter on the lights or is the scanner necessary?
I was just about to order the Foxwell NT520 OBD2 , i'm hoping that will help me diagnose and correct.
in the meanwhile i was going to try to access that lamp from the wheel well and look for obvious faults

Only the 2016-ish + facelift models got the LED headlights.
You have bi-xenon.
But your halo rings (angel eyes) are LED powered.
You may not be able to get anything useful out of a test with a multimeter if the control module determined that there is too much of a short to keep it alive, usually in an attempt to save other components from damage.
Do not try to apply +12V to anything.
LED module for rings may simply be dead.

Who thought lights could be so complex? Took the wheel well liner out to have a look. Dropped the LED modules out , blew off a bunch of scale that must have accumulated from moisture being in that lamp. Took out the orange parking bulb and blew compressed air in there to try to get rid of the condensation. Also that small circuit board.
Oddly enough when I put everything back together the halos worked for about a minute then went out again.
I guess I'll wait for the scanner to see if I can reset them back on.
Not sure why I'm getting condensation in only the one headlamp and not the other. Even without driving the car.
Just getting around to this issue again.
I swapped the headlight module (#5) from the right side (working) to the left side( not working)
It made no difference, iî so I can assume the headlight module is good.
I was going to do the same with the LED modules (#3) but couldn't
Figure out how to disconnect the electrical connection without
breaking it. It's pretty small and delicate.
Any ideas how it's done?

Does anyone know how to test these LED modules to see if they are good or not?
there are three small brass pins as well as the two side contacts that are attached to a terminal, that broke of while i was trying to disconnect it.
both LED are out want to try to isolate the problem before buying new ones.

for anybody interested, i ended taking a chance a buying two new LED modules from China, ($55 each) without knowing what the problem really was, and putting them in.
Low and behold they work. Though it would still be cheaper than going to the shop , having a scan, and being told maybe thats the problem
Pulling out the old ones you can see all the scale and crud deposit from condensation occurring in the headlamps (a common problems with these models).
Even if they last only a few years , i wont mind. Ill also dry out the headlamps from time to time.
Still a mystery as to why both of them went out at the same time. I guess these must be wired in series , so to speak.20190322_154406-1152x864.jpg
