I have a 2008 335xi that I will be removing the engine soon. anyone have leads on a link or video on how to deal with the transfer case/axles? If there is a way to do it with just disconnecting the axles and subframe that would be heaven. Im sure it isn't that easy lol. Id love to get in touch with anyone who has done it. Heard it is a pain so any information is greatly appreciated!
Well you could drop every thing out the bottom but if the engine is being replaced you would till need to pull the axles, the front driveshaft should be no problem the transfercase stays with transmission. You can separate the trans from the engine.
How are you planning on removing the engine? From the top with a cherry picker? Or dropping everything out the bottom?

you can unbolt the struts enough to slide the axles out. then you can remove it out the top or bottom. If you have a lift bottom is 100x easier. Leave trans attached too.
I dont recommend leaving the struts and axles attached when you drop it out the bottom, it just makes it super difficult to get a part afterwards, and you risk damaging fenders as the struts fall away.
