    2008 x3 2.0d, which tyres?

Hey guys, gone from x5 4.4 to x3 2.0d, didn’t know about how picky these were with tyres, what are people running on theirs? Mine are 235/55/17

... in my opinion... stick to the OE size and speed/load rating.. any good quality brand name all-terrain or winter tire (depending on your driving requirements)
... forty-three years of driving before I get behind the wheel of a BMW .... and I am thinking, "why did it take me so long?"
... and then after another 4 years I can't believe that I have two of them !!

+1 with the above user. You can use whichever tires you had on the X5 on the X3.

So stick with 235/55/17? I bought it used and that’s what’s fitted, and all 4 tyres are different, can I use other makes instead of the bmw approved ones so long as they are the right size? I read they had to be bmw approved or risk damaging the transfer box

bmw approval would not extend to brand name, but certainly would apply for size and speed/load rating...
    - so stick with the 235/55R17 - lots of good brand names out there, but don't shop just based on price
    - and get four new ones all at the same time

I have TOYO Open Country HT for my 3-season tires and have been very pleased...
My winter tires are BFGoodrich Winter Slalom and are also very good... a little noisier than the TOYOs but much better in the snow

my TOYO tires are rated 99H
.. 99 indicates the load rating, higher the number is a higher load rating
.. H indicates the speed rating, higher ratings include V, W, Y, and ZR
.. combined they imply the wall stiffness and ride stability of the tires
