    Aftermarket Suspension Brace Questions

Are those aftermarket braces that go from front suspension tower to tower designed to be in compression or tension? Also, what is the correct terminology used to describe (what do you call them)?

    Called a strut tower brace.
Neither compression nor tension upon installation.
    Google:BMW strut tower brace
then take your pick of the options offered.

For an E36, the X-Brace provides more stiffness than the Strut Tower Brace

I believe an E30 benefits because the Strut Tower Brave ties into the firewall

Yeah, first thing to do is the x-brace underneath since that will do far more by tying the chassis crossmember into the front subframe so it's more difficult for them to twist independently under load. The strut tower brace on top is mostly for decoration, though a quality one can add some stiffness as well.

As posted above, the x-brace should be the primary modification for stiffness,
followed by a strut tower brace for additional stiffness.
