330 vs m3 power steering pump difference?

So I threw a 330 pump into my m3. Now I know the part numbers are different but the only way that I could visibly see a difference was the bracket that bolts to the front of the pump and I had to change the m3 high pressure hose to the 330. But it bolted right up.

My steering is pretty light, a lot lighter then my e36 m3. I never drove the e46M with the actual M pump. So I’m wondering if the feel is lighter because of the 330 pump?

Anybody have any information on if these pumps are spec-d differently internally?

Steering lightness is not a function of the pump. It’s rack dependent. That is, even if you’d installedcan M3 pump the steering feel would have been the same. It seems BMW went through several racks models during the E46 run. I had a 2001 330Ci that had the overboosted rack. The steering feel was definitely lighter than that of the later models.

Gotcha, makes sense to me. I’ll research which rack has the best feel for what I’m looking for
