If that's a single stage steering wheel, where is the slip-ring? That's looks dual. The openning for the wiring should be slanted for a single.
I've never seen an e39 that didnt have a column mounted slip ring, even the 97 I had. It had a column mounted slip ring and single stage airbag. I'm no e39 expert though. Ended up using this wheel afterall.

Mtekjosh, you have an '01 7 series don't speak for the other years and spread mis-information just to prove a point, thats not justifiable...
I have 3 (1x '97 and 2x '98) e39 steering wheels and they are all the Rev 1 steering wheel mounted clocksprings that work in e36's also.
I also have an 01 M5 wheel which is a Gen 2 (nice and plushy thick grip) in mint condition and its a steering column mounted slipring. I am currently using that '01 wheel because its very nice in my E36 ( I machined out the rear to replicate the e39 revision 1 wheel to fit the '97-99 clockspring mainly to retain turn signal reset and illumination, it was a PITA but glad i did it) you are right that its a '99 (late '99 most likely) as its the dual stage wheel, the only '99 which didn't have dual stage was the E36 platforms, I have one (except '00-'02 z3 m54's). the '99 e46's all had dual stage already.
A lot of people might run across these posts searching for answers and they'll get confused more reading mis-information. thats all.
Is this still for sale and what about the slip ring
