Reading through the threads I see that a cooling system problem on 530xi E60 cars isn't unique to me, but I have a couple of questions.
1). Is there an efficient way to check and see if the water pump is pumping water? I know I could start the car, warm it up, shut off the engine, disconnect the radiator hose, start the car and see if coolant comes gushing out but that seems kind of like a bull in a china shop approach. Is there a less messy way to achieve the same goal?
2). I see cooling system rebuild kits for various Exx motors but not one for a 530xi. Has anyone seen something like that and if so where?
Your expert assistance is appreciated.
Thanks
You can try the coolant bleeding procedure. If coolant flows into the expansion tank, then the pump is working.

I agree with zoom750! If it does not turn, double check and make sure to have the fan on low, climate settings to be both up, middle and down positions and heat on high, it did not initiate for the life of me until I turned on the climate fan settings for each position.
Also, both seat heaters on high. And don't forget to connect a charger to the battery.

Check for faults it's either the water pump or there is an actual leak some where.
