    1997 BMW 325i DME Issue?

    Hey everyone,
I'm new to the site and am very glad to be apart of this wonderful community.
As the title says I have a 1997 BMW 325i and the car has been sitting for a while. One day I go to start it and it just cranks does not start I notice the check engine light does not come on at all. I didn't some research which wasn't good enough or else she would be running lol. We ended up changing the crank positioning sensor and same issue no check engine light and she doesn't start. So then I decided to pull out the DME and noticed some corrosion , will I be able to buy a used one and be able to reprogram it myself if some, any guidance is greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance to everyone.

    Well it's either not a 1997, or not a 325i.

So it's really hard to get an idea because there are differences in methods to make a used one work.

Easiest way to sync immobilizer (in your case) to a used dme is to use this program https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...0-vagcom-cable

With a cheap bmw obd cable and 20-pin port adapter.

I have a update i changed out the dme which was bad, now the mil light comes on as it did not before due to the bad dme, when i check the mil code i get a P0600 which is to reprogram the dme. my issue is i have installed inpa and i have a k-dcan cable also i have the drivers installed cable is on Com1 also late is on 1 from 16.

I Also tired this but not luck...

im using the Dcan cable, im waiting for my obd/ads cable to come in the mail you think that what i need to add the vin to the new dme? thanks for all your help mate.

    i tired to do this,

No, You will not need the old ZB#, you will only need the ZB# from the DME module you want to update. I will give you a short instructions on how I use WinKfp to program my modules.

    1. Go into INPA and print off the complete UIF page with ZB# and programming info.
    2. Close INPA completely and launch WinKFP.
    3. I use comfort mode since it does everything that I need it to do.
    4. Once you are in comfort mode, Click on Choose ZUSB and make sure that the programming data is loaded in there. If you dont have any data in there you will need to load it before you proceed to the next step.
    5. Close the window that is showing the programming data and click on Enter Vin, Enter your complete VIN # of the car you are programming, and click OK, Vin will show up at the top of the program if it accepted it.
    6. Click on Enter ZUSB and enter the ZB# from the UIF printoff from INPA, and click ok.
    7. It should load the next window and show the module # and something in the right screen. You can leave those as default and click ok.
    8. Click on Done, which will bring you to the programming page.
    9. Make sure you car is hooked up to a battery charger before you start the programming.
    10. Once you have everything good to go click on program and sit back and relax, it will go through and will say " You have 1 time left to program this ECU" click OK and it will flash it.

but i dont see the UIF tab to get this info.,

Can you use inpa to read the error code.. p codes are crap. And it certainly wouldn't tell you that you need a reprogramming. The manual and automatic transmission dme used the same exact software version, no need to flash anything.

You have skipped quite a few important steps and jumped straight to reflashing the dme without any experience of this exact model and dme.

Please sync ews (I guarantee you haven't done so if you didn't use the 20-pin port), and clear adaptations. Stop fooling around with winkfp before you brick this dme as well.

Also, it has NOTHING to do with the VIN number.

You don't need that cable for the ews sync.

You simply need your k+dcan and a simple 20-pin adapter cable like this https://www.ebay.com/itm/263072411300 or from Amazon or whatever.

I gave you the simplest method on how to align ews in post #4. Follow that link, and use the ewssync.exe program with car connected at 20-pin port. That was the step by step.

Then clear adaptations and enjoy your car.

Anytime, and to you as well!
If you have any questions please post here first, as there is a lot of info online, much of which is misleading.
I don't want you to have to spend unnecessarily.
