    M635 / M88 Shims

Need a single 4-10... Have a nice set and multiples of almost every other M88 and S38 shims, but need this one to complete the job, anyone out there have these and want to sell or swap some shims ?

    thanks !

Edit to say I found 1 of the ones I needed, now only need the 4-10

I have a set of shims at home. I will check and see if I have an extra in this thickness and let you know. They are officially shims for VW and not BMW shims. Let me know if that is a deal killer for you. No offense taken if you want BMW shims.

Seems like I heard Volvo shims are correct also.

Also Greg in MD has a set - I think. I'll ask him to get in touch if he does

My understanding was that Volvo shims work in the S38 and VW work in the M88. M88 shims are slightly smaller in diameter compared to the S38 variant. If I am incorrect, someone please correct me.

Oh, and I didn't check on the 4-10 shim last night as I forgot it was Halloween and was in full dad mode after I got home. Sent a reminder to myself for this evening. Sorry for the delay.

    Thanks,

    Eric

Thanks to Eric, shim is on the way. FWIW, engine got dropped into place today and headers are on the studs ( total pain as we know). I have always used a cherry picker in the past, but this time I used a hoist suspended from the I beam across my place here...wow, so much nicer, more controlable and any tiny amount of movement is easily done, perfect

I also drive Volvo's. There is a company called "IPD". They've been making Volvo performance parts for a long time. If they still do it you can rent a valve shim kit. You put a deposit down on the kit and pay only for the shims you use . Comes with a depressing tool, an assortment of shims and whatever else is needed for a valve adjustment.

That is a really cool service. If you have an S38, this seems like a good route to go to keep costs down (assuming their shim prices are decent).

Glad to help out on the 4-10 shim. Good luck getting everything buttoned up.

Yep,I figured you had everything needed except for the one shim. Just adding it in case someone needs that info sometime down the line. If IPD does still do it it is a great service. Have no idea if the depressing tool works on the M or not.

Fwiw. Careful use of the tool will allow use on the M88 and S38, at least with the tool I have , results may vary and I am not responsible if anyone breaks an expensive part while trying..etc etc
