The word on the street or at least from Mike Miller, the BMWCCA tech advisor, is that these gasoline direct injection engines benefit from more frequent oil changes, i.e. every 5k miles instead of 10k.
Since there is no dipstick, can one just drain the oil, pull the filter then refill with whatever amount specified. I would measure how much comes out, though.

I would use Blackstone labs for a few samples to guide a proper oil change interval.

I'm inclined to agree with Mike. I'm following a 6k interval myself.
