I just joined but have had and loved my BMW for many years and I’m excited to do some maintenance and upgrades this winter and appreciate any advice.
So my current BF GOODRICH G-force sports are 245/45ZR18 91W. I love the way they work but they don’t make that model anymore and I need new tires.
So Costco has a rebate on Michelin tires and I’m looking at same size Pilot super sports but there’s two variations offered, one is load/ speed rated at 93y at $278 and other is rated at 97y and is only $225 or $50 less.
Why is the tire that’s rated for a lower load cost so much more for same size? Should I get the 93y rated model since my car is lightweight (2800lbs.)? Are the pilot super sports right or should I splurge for sport cup 2?
I use the car for occasional joyriding and some rare track day use, never in the rain. It is a highly modified 318ti built as a track car / driver.
Thanks to anyone who schools me on this.

Well I guess it depends on what you are wanting. Also what size are the wheels? a 245/45 is a lot of tire, have you thought about a 225/40?... Anyway... Cup2 tires are great for a few hot laps, then they get very greasy. At least on the C7 Corvettes.
Anyway, looks like there are about 15 245/40's that you could choose from on tirerack, along with 4 streetable track tires.
No matter where you go, there you are...
Correction, I am currently running 245/40zr18 91w
My question is should I get the 97y or 93y tires ? I am running 18x8.5 rims et30
