I dunno how anyone can remove or install a blower motor on a E23 its nearly impossible. Do you disassemble the motor and wheel and re-assemble onside the cowl area ????
I thought that at the back of the engine compartment there is a panel you remove and there it is, as I remember
It's a pain, ideally it comes out from inside the car, I've only removed the blower motor/fans from the outside and was able to do so and not break the squirrel cage/covers. Motor and fans/wheels come out as a whole, It's possible to reinstall from outside but slow and easy and lots of patience, it's possible. I'd probably slightly pull the bottom lip panel out a little.
Working through the cowl on the engine bay side, the blower motor comes out and goes back in w/ the wheels on it. I have done a few of them. Be patient. There is barely enough room but there is room.

Ford, MB, and GM round out the pack.
Lots of back pain medication, lots of patients, some luck.
I did it probably ten years ago and still hate it.
Definitely from outside the car- engine compartment area.
There's JUST enough room to squeeze the cages out from the compartment. Make sure you note how they go in and test before you button it all up.
Good luck!
FOLLOW UP : Well i got the blower motor in and it takes patience and very tedious maneuvering. The black plastic casing that the squirrel cage sits inside of is the most complicated to get out. The motor and squirrel cage comes out as one whole unit.
