Firstly thanks to Shogun and Tim for the info I got a while back - new G/box chip smoothed the shift out nicely. Right now I have a weeping steering box - servotronic? - that is making a mess. It was removed last year for this reason and seal kitted but here we are. I also have a malfunctioning hydraulic fluid regulator but haven't found a replacement as yet. Presently the brake bomb fluid is sneaking back through the regulator into the steering reservoir after a week or so if the car is not run, then sucks back down quickly once started(no self levelling on this car). Just wondering if that regulator glitch might be contributing to the leaky steering box? I was about to have a go at adjusting it but now not sure if it's worth it. And they look bloody expensive!!
Regards to all - Matt
which part exactly is leaking? In the drawings on the one top right the item 15, torque converter servotronic? http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/part...BMW-730i&mg=32
there are no single parts available, but the only leaking point there is the o-ring, easy to get from any shop
or do you mean the pressure regulator item 1 ? http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=34_1871
there the usual leaking points are the 2 switches 4 and 9
made by ATE, can get from aftermarket,
04 BMW Brake Fluid Pressure Sensor BMW # 34331150922 = ATE 340028
09 Oil pressure switch M10X1 ZYL. BMW 34351182270 = ATE 340029
the main item pressure regulator fails very seldom, actually I never replaced one, just the switches.

OK, the regulator is weepy at the switches, but main issue there atm is that it won't retain pressure in the brake bomb - pressurized fluid pushes back through the regulator to the reservoir slowly once the car is parked. This doesn't seem to be a showstopper and I'm looking for a new one, but I'm wondering if the malfunctioning pressure regulator would cause the steering box to develop leaks? The steering box leak is hard to determine - I can't actually identify the control unit according to the diagram. Where my electrical plug is attached appears to be what they have labelled the torque converter. There looks like a join in the body of the box that could also be leaking?
This is the item on my box that is potentially leaking. https://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/296...r-32411134770/
Either that or the main body.....
yes, that is the Servotronic Torque Converter at the bottom of the steering gear and the part which leaks is a tiny o-ring. The TC has 4 bolts, only the 2 longer ones you have to remove, then the TC can be removed from the gear, before put a pan underneath because all power steering fluid out of the gear and hose will come out. The o-ring is at the top of the TC as you can see in the link you gave. Standard o-ring from an o-ring parts box will fit. When you remove the 2 shorter bolts, then you can disassemble the TC, but that is usually not necessary.

OK - as it turns out the guy who kitted the box a while back handed me the O rings - all nine of em - for the TC. He seemed to be washing his hands of it and said they were "a can of worms". I'll get that TC off and see how I go, if all goes well I will try adjust the box but how far do I need to jack up the engine? I read somewhere to place some rectangular timber on the oil pan then trolley jack?
Not sure how that is with the M60 installed, on the M70 it is pretty easy, that TC is about 5cm long only, so one does not need a lot of space.
Before you start anything, look at the bolts, special star torx https://www.eeuroparts.com/Parts/296...r-32411134770/
chck your tool box first

Yep, had a torx bit that fitted - all done and topped up, fingers crossed. I'm intending to press on and see if I can get it steering well, so how do I raise this engine without damaging anything and how far. I'm assuming once I loosen the outer nut I have to wind the allen fitting down very gradually till I get resistance through 12 O'clock, then back off?
here for E34 V8, should be same http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Mainte...eering_box.htm
BEFORE you start with that, better check once more all the links http://www.bmwe34.net/E34main/Mainte...ering_link.htm
