Guys, I have searched high and low but can not find an exact answer.
I purchased a CPO 550I two weeks ago. Remainder of Maintenance plan exists. When I paid the dealer for the car I was told that at purchase time was the only time I can extend the Maintenance Program and quoted me $3800. I refused. When I now however check I can see BMW offers various Ultimate care upgrades. Worst case scenario I see online is $3200 for the longest extension.
My Questions.
1. Can I still purchase an extension?.
2. Is my dealer trying to rip me off?.
Please be gentle with me, I am a newbee to you forum and do not want to upset the BMW gurus on this site.
Thanks.
Just bought a 2016 535iX Friday, same situation you're in. They are correct. Although you still have the balance of the 4 year, 50,000 mile warranty, the 4 year, 50,000 mile maintenance is for the first owner only. In my case, the car still has 2 years and 16,000 miles on the warranty for my use. and, as the car is CPO, after the 4 year 50,000 mile warranty runs out, the CPO warranty kicks in for another 1 year unlimited miles. When I sat down with the manager to do the paperwork, he was pushing for me to buy a "refresh" to the original maintenance, which would give me free maintenance to 4 years 50,000 miles. So they would "refresh" the maintenance as if I were the original owner. I think they wanted $700 for the "refresh".
The oil change isn't due for another 11,000 miles, which would hit right around 45,000 miles. An oil change at the dealer is under $100, and I will do it for less myself. Add in an air filter, cab vent filters, and maybe a set of wipers. I would guess all that would cost less than $400, even if the dealer did it. Then the "refresh" would run out at 50,000 miles. So I chose not to pay the $700.
Not sure why It would cost $3800? How many miles/years would the $3800 extend the maintenance?
On 2015 vehicles the maintenance stays with the car not the owner. I think they changed the rules in 2016.
I purchased a 2015 550i last winter with only 31K and when I went ot the dealer for a service they have no issue continuing the OEM warranty AND the free oil changes over to me as long as I called BMW and transferred the registered owner to myself. I had to call because I purchased the car from a non-BMW dealer. Now I know the new CPO warranty is a joke and they may have changed this offer with later models.
Safe Driving.
The maintenance packages are not worth it. These cars don't eat brakes like they used to. You'll still save money paying out of pocket dealership prices as services come due, versus the maintenance plan at $3800 or whatever they quoted you.
