Here is a picture of the little booger. It controls the xenon headlight up/down aim. First one failed at the bracket right angle bend. Second one failed at the locking clip, not the bracket...I was able to kluge the bracket to the lower suspension arm with a hose clamp. Couple years later it too failed at the bracket right angle bend. I just put in the third one...the locking clip failed during installation and the bracket is once again held to the lower suspension arm with a hose clamp.
If the damn thing fails again I'm buying it from FCP Euro...lifetime guarantee (they sell the OEM BMW part). Or I might just cable tie the sensor arm to one setting...my M3 doesn't vary much in front suspension height anyway. Or I could reinforce the right angle with epoxy and another piece of metal.
Mine broke years ago and I just left them that way. Over undulating roads I couldn’t stand how the headlights would get out of sync due to how slow the system responds and would end up moving basically in reverse. Unless you have 300lb friends that sometimes sit in your back seat, self leveling headlights are stupid on a sports car.
