    BMW E38 headunit

    Hello everyone!
I've been wondering if there are any aftermarket headunits that fit E38 well.
Some people told me about that there is one but it's made only in America but that sounds pretty stupid.
I live in Europe, Hungary, so it would be the best if it was sold somewhere near.
My old headunit probably broke because it isn't working but doesn't really make me mad because I wanted to replace it anyway.
So is there a way to make my car look a little more modern? It is a '97 prefacelift one without navi.
    Thanks for the answers!

Android head units. Search Seicane or Xtrons on here.

Looked them up, I have a car without screen (the casette one) is it a plug and play? Like I take the old casette player and the radio one and put the Seicane headunit in? Isn’t there something I should know about before ordering?
    Thanks!

There are single-din units you can buy that fit fine . But if you want that Android unit you will need to buy the expensive US one you are talking about, or just modify one of the other brands to fit. It's really quite simple, you remove the DVD/CD drive and then reposition the rear of the unit so that it fits around your HVAC vents. There are plenty of pictures and writeups around if you look for them, look up XTRONS and E38 you'll find stuff. Here's an image of one I modified:

Then come the, "How do you wire it up?" questions. I simply removed my tape deck, dsp screen, and amps from the rear. Then just wired in my own amps, and hardwired the unit's connector in. There's 12V constant, 12v ACC, Ground, speakers, illumination wire, canbus wire, and maybe a few others. VERY simple stuff, you just need to know what you're doing =)

If I’d buy this headunit would I have to buy anything other? Any converter or such?
‘97 prefacelift, casette headunit at the moment.

    Boss BV9976B 7-Inch Touchscreen In-Dash Media Receiver

‘97 casette player headunit OEM right now.
If I’d buy this headunit would I have to order anything other than the unit itself?
    Such as converters or something?
Anything to look out before installing it?
Thanks for the answers, it really helps me with going!

Keep in mind that this is coming from a guy who built a blind spot detector for the E38 in his free time

Hehe, yes I can totally understand that it CAN be modified like that, but I don't trust myself that much at the moment, so I'll probably go with the 1 DIN head unit.

Anyways still I'd like to know the answer to that:

Probably will go with this one, just because it's cheaper.
    Thanks again!

how does one remove the dvd drive, and reposition it. I'm very new to this, so I don't want to mess up.
