Been running stock filters for 4 years now without any noticeable issues. Car sits for about 3 months each winter too with e85 in it.
The guys from Injector Dynamics told me that you should stay away from paper elements for ethanol. They will work for some time and you may not notice a difference as long as your fuel pump has overhead to compensate as they degrade but you'd be better off switching to microglass filters meant for ethanol. Before I switched to the ID750 I got a microglass element for my Aeromotive filter

Fuelab 828 Series 5" Inline Filter, with the 6-micron micro-fiberglass element. Fits in the stock fuel filter clamp perfectly.
