So my boot lid won't open on my 2000 e38 750iL
It's the hydraulic auto open/close boot.
Pressing the button on the driver door or the push button on the bootlid itself results in the hydraulic motor seemingly doing something but the boot lid is NOT unlatching - I don't even hear the lock mechanism unlatching - therefore the boot is not opening at all.
Any ideas on how to get the boot open?
I'm at a loss, as I need to get my alternator replaced (tomorrow if I can get this boot open), access to the batteries is required to successfully replace the alternator to prevent issues.
I've tried the ideas on YouTube, however short of trying this I don't know what to do...https://youtu.be/HMiCzwMQpQo
Any advice I'd really appreciate it

Yes 2 keys.
I actually just ended up doing the trick I posted from YouTube.
Drilled hole, poked a screwdriver in and.pushed the horizontal steel rod UP, which unlatched the boot lock.
I can only assume given my.battery and alternator issues.pately that the latch became somehow out of sync and initiation with the unlock trigger (from any method as detailed in OP.)
Anyway it's functional again, albeit what madness.
I hope my alternator replacement goes well tomorrow

Although I managed to resolve the ugly way
Can you please explain what you mean by use your finger?
I tried the key in the boot etc, with no luck.
Although now it is working.
Can you please elaborate for my comprehension.
Thank you for your time

Did you turn the key left of right?
Yes you have to reset the look mechanism by locking the trunk lock by turning the switch inside the lock latch to lock position then you will need to use the lock switch inside the car to unlock it. That will reset you’re locking mechanism. Try it
I seeee
Currently have the battery on a slow charge so I can get it to the garage for the alternator replacement tomorrow AM.
I will give this a go later or tomorrow.
I'm only 7 days into my ownership of this car.
Within 24 hours alternator issues.
This forum seriously provides an utter novice (in all things car mechanic/Electric related) with confidence from this outstanding collective of individuals here.
Thanks again lapd1989

Thank you so for the strong technical knowledge!
