Hello,
i have a 2011 X3 35i 3.0 with original battery and 60K miles. The car has developed intermittent electrical problems. I can go to start the car and dash lights stay off and the windshield wipers will start going. The car will sometimes start and go in gear but the electronic steering is not operational. It's like half the car is dead electrically. Another time I started it and the alarm started and wouldn't shut off.
My fix is to disconnect the battery ground and wait a few minutes. When I rehook the ground the wipers stop and car will start and everything seems fine. I cleaned every connection to both poles of the battery as I suspected a corroded or bad ground. Yesterday after leaving work I went to start the car and it barely started but died immediately. After a couple more tries I got it started and it remained running and I was able to get home.
Today I started the car and it was fine. When I tested the battery with my charger it was low;however I didn't load test it. I usually put on at least 50 miles a day just to and from work. Sometimes I can go 10-14 days without incident. I have not tested it with an analog meter to see if something is remaining on and draining the battery.
Any suggestions would be most appreciated.
Thank you,

At that age, I would replace the battery. I would guess this fixes your problem.
Hi,
I replaced the battery on Saturday but that did not fix my problem. When I now start the car it will run for just a second and then it simply shuts off. When trying to restart, the starter/solenoid makes a clicking sound like its making a poor connection or battery is weak. Waiting several more minutes the car will start like normal but again will die out immediately.
Any suggestions or ideas would be appreciated.
Thank you,

Quick question i am working in a 2014 F25, not sure if it is the same as the 2011?
When you replaced the battery did you register the new Battery in the DME?
I am having lot of issues with mine.
took it to a shop to replaced the thersmostact and radiator fan, now car crank but does not start.
have like 16 fault codes in the DME, i think some how the DME needs to be reprogrammed or replaced...have no time yet to check for blown fuses.
