I bought a used 2002 M5 and the mileage on the cluster is accurate to all the data entries in Carfax, but I have a flashing manipulation dot.
I had my BMW dealership read the LCM/cluster mileages to see what's going on and they said they were off by 600 miles or so. I'm not sure how this can happen. At any rate, I bought the cable and software from bimmersoftware.com and am looking for advice on how to sync the two modules.
From what research I can gather, I need to take the lower of the two mileaged control units and reset it to zero miles and then when it codes it will pull the higher mileage from the other unit.
If someone has a simple explanation of how to do this I'd be extremely grateful (perhaps even a paypal reward of some sort). I'm a noob with NCS Expert and really green with the others but I'm computer savvy and willing to learn.
Thanks!!
You can't do it with NCS Expert.
You should check if VIN numbers match in LCM and cluster, as that can give you tamper dot too.
The LCM mileage can be changed easily with PASoft 1.4, but cluster needs to be taken apart to change mileage down, with eeprom writing tools directly to eeprom (much harder).

Only a vin mismatch sets off the tamper dot. Mileage alone will never do it.
If it's *flashing*, that might actually indicate some sort of weird I-bus/K-bus communication issue.
