The N20 timing chain guide failure seems to be a well-known issue in the community, but I'm having trouble getting a straight answer on WHEN exactly it took place, and which vehicles have the redesigned parts.
Most sources online say it is vehicles with N20 engine that were produced after January, 2015 (when the part # for the chain guide changed) Another source claimed it was March, 2015. And another said it was 2015 model year vehicles (which would be ones produced in later 2014 also)
Can anyone share their knowledge on this? I'm interested in buying a 2015 X1 with the N20, and want to confirm if this is trouble, or if it should be OK.
Thank you!
You're talking about an E 84 X1?
I see no evidence that timing chain related parts changed at any time:

Personally, I'd avoid it.
