I went to put my new 17x8 et20 tsw wheels on and 245 45 bfg sport comp 2s and the left side cleared with a good 1/4 inch while the right side rubbed against the weld for the spring perch and the dips in the perch.
Wtf? Bent knucke or housing right? Theres no wheel bearing play.
I "made" it fit. A BFH and a little grinding on that weld. But i want to know wtf is going on and fix it before it ruins my new tire.

Have you had a professional alignment recently? Does your front camber match side to side?
I agree, it looks like something is damaged/bent if it's really that far off side to side on a car without camber plates or anything like that. Control arm or knuckle would be my guesses.

camber plates/control arms would not affect the relation of the wheel hub to the strut housing... Only the angle of the entire assembly.
I had to look at it for a minute and wonder if I put something together wrong but you cant and nothing changes that relation HUB | | STRUT Camber plates or e32 control arms ins second slot HUB / / STRUT The relation angle and distance stays the same is what I am trying to show.
No I was going to tomorrow or Monday send it across the street for alignment and if its all F'ed up on that side well then I'll know.
Currently it pulls a bit to the left and the steering wheel is a bit to the right...

Yeah you're right now that I think about it. It must be the knuckle/hub alignment relative to the strut as you said. I assume the bolts holding the strut to the knuckle/hub are all intact and there's no sign of damage/bending on the bottom portion of the strut where it joins the hub? I think those flanges where it bolts together and joins would be the place where it would bend in any impact.

I think you’ve got a damaged/bent “king pin” or knuckle. It’s item #2 in the link: http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=31_0518
e34s the strut housing and knuckle are all one piece they do not separate like newer cars.
But yes, bent knuckle it must be.
I'm gonna get the alignment checked Monday.... Or maybe I should just get a junk yard knuckle/strut housing put it on then get the alignment. I mean I pretty much know its F'ed up.
