    Nice job Steven,
I love a story with a happy ending!
Hopefully buying it back was cheaper than paying someone to finish it.

    It went full circle!

I had my time with an E32 V12 for about seven years, great cars when all systems go. That looks a bit different, the M73?
    I make E23 parts.

I don't know anything about the E32 or M70 other than the facts that the M73 is 5.4 liters and the M70 was 5.0 and both are single overhead cam non-vanos 2 valve/cylinder engines. The M73 isn't any more complicated than an M30 engine, it's just so huge it was time consuming and annoying to work on in the chassis.

Where did you buy them ?

I am using industrial split shaft collars (for 5/8" shaft) as rocker locks because I wasn't paying $10 each for the same thing sold as speed parts for the M30

Not pictured was 1) Dirt that was still inside the head bolt holes of this head that I had two different shops "clean" got scraped out while I dropped the head on and I had to remove the head, re clean it, and carefully wipe my MLS gasket clean and inspect it to make sure grit didn't get between any of the layers (this is what I get for trusting any shop to deliver an assembly-ready clean part)
    2) Torquing the head studs while forgetting to install the oil spray bar and having to remove and re-do that

I don't know why but I only seem to get the motivation to build engines after midnight. Not being familiar w/ this engine combined with being tired is a great combination for success.

The split collars I used for rocker locks were some generic industrial parts on Ebay sold for 5/8" SAE shaft diameter. Not sold specifically for engines.

The turbo 733 is on the road now and I've put a few hundred miles on it. I'm still working on ironing out some kinks in the Megasquirt tune. It's running at 14psi on the wastegate only right now. I have an electronic boost controller and will turn the boost up once the tune is sorted out better. I also need to redo the rear section of the exhaust. I am not happy w/ how the guy I hired to build it hung the rear muffler. He had a ton of room to tuck it up tighter to the body than he did.

Here are a few photos taken with my friend's Corrado during a trip to a car show in New Canaan CT

Here's a few underhood pictures. I still need to hook the catch can up to the intake - it's just hanging out disconnected right now.

^^ I like my intercooler reservoir tank. It's a Ford part. I bought it because it was cheap and because it looks like a molar.

^^ Pretty colors on the dump pipe off my wastegate, and a look at the electronic boost controller.

^^ Closeup of GT500 Bosch intercooler pump and my W2A intercooler heat exchanger w/ tiny electric fan

The car currently has a stock single coil w/ new plugs and wires and it runs well, but I bought a waste spark conversion kit (waiting on semi-custom wire kit from Ireland that lets you make your own plug wires cut to length for waste spark but maintain the stock wire loom and wire ends)

I dig the location of the HE. Exactly where I want to install one on my 745i with TCD's AWIC.

For now awaiting Bimmerheads to finish my head. Hope it is worth the time.

I had to move both cars out of the barn this morning so I took a few photos. The 750 is extremely dusty from sitting.

Car is down to install the wasted spark setup but once it's running again I'll work on that!

I got the wasted spark conversion done over the weekend. The car runs better than ever. I had some breaking up under lean cruise conditions, and also sometimes under boost, with the stock coil that is gone w/ the wasted spark setup.

I used a Quadspark ignition module and an IGN-6 coil pack, both from DIYAutotune. The plug wires are from Ireland. Look how much room I gained in the engine bay from losing the distributor cap.

I added power and ground buss bars to neaten up wiring. The mounting boss from the original main relay was a perfect place to mount one of the buss bars, the holes even lined up.

I also replaced the shifter knob with a new old stock era-appropriate one.

Here is a short sound bite of the car in the garage after I got the wasted spark setup going. I'll try to get a driving sound bite to capture the cool turbo and blowoff valve sounds soon. The exhaust is as quiet as I could get a 3" system to be. Cat + 2 of the biggest mufflers I could fit.

    Looking good!
Are you just running just the 1 heat exchanger?
Done any data logging yet & what are you seeing for IAT under full boost?

Yes all I have right now is the small heat exchanger (with an electric fan on it). This heat exchanger was actually sold as an oil cooler but it's all I had room for. I will have to take a look at IAT's. It's pretty cool out here right now. I drove this car out to Caffeine and Carburetors in New Canaan, CT and showed it on Sunday. I got to stretch this car out over 120 mph and it did great. It surprised me by breaking the tires loose and power sliding on dry pavement accelerating onto the highway, with a limited slip diff and 265 tires. Scared my passenger. I drove to the show w/ a friend driving my 750iL and another friend driving an E39 M5 that I used to own. The E23 could not keep up w/ the M5 at high speed but I'm still on waste gate only right now.

I took the 18x8/18x9.5 M Parallels that have General GMax RS summer tires on them off the car and bought some style 4 16x8 E38 wheels to put all season tires on for the winter time. I won't drive this car in snow or salt but I do want to take it out when the roads are clear. I put 225/55/16 front and 245/50/16 rear tires on the style 4's. I really like how they look on the car and the car rides so plush compared to how it rode with 18's on it with lower profile tires. I wish I could get summer tires for the 16" wheels, I'd consider using them year-round.

I did have to use a front hubcentric spacer to get the ET23 16x8's to clear the front struts. I used 12mm spacers and longer wheel bolts because I already had them in stock, and the fitment seems just right.

I bought a Hunter Roadforce machine for my home hobby workshop this past year. It is a fun tool to use.

Here is a short part-throttle drive-away video from earlier today. It was about 12 degrees F out so I didn't give it too much gas.
