Hi,
I recently bought a 2011 X5 diesel with 50k miles. A couple days ago it started beeping the horn after turning the car off. I figured out that it can be replicated by adjusting the steering wheel all the way in. So as it moves, it passes a certain spot and causes the horn to honk. The car sucks the wheel in automatically when you turn it off.
Any ideas on what to do here? I don't even know where to start!
Thanks,
Mike
It sounds (no pun intended) like there’s a wiring issue in the steering column. You’re going to have to remove the column covers to find the culprit.
By your description I agree with Marco, seems to be a wiring issue.
Purchase a Bentley manual to familiarize yourself with repair procedures,

Thanks guys. Yeah, I'm guessing a pinched wired of some kind. It's quite annoying.
See if you can remove the bottom steering column cover. Go to www.realoem.com and enter the last 7 characters of the car’s vin. Hit enter and bookmark the page. Then scroll down to steering. It’ll show you in a roundabout way how to remove the bottom cover.
