    2001 Z3 antenna grommet

Thought I'd share this recent project, about $13 part and 10 minutes to fix. I was able to unscrew the antenna with my hand, I then taped up around the old grommet to prevent any accidents to the paint. I used some needle nose pliers to pick the old grommet out, it was dry and came out pretty easy. I found a long screw with matching threads and screwed it in to allow us to pull the antenna internals up while pushing the grommet in. I used some dielectric grease I had to lube up the new grommet, I slid it into the hole and pulled the antenna mount through the new grommet. It requires a pull and turning motion to get the grommet to seat correctly. It got pretty tight near the end and I 'carefully' used a pair pliers to do the last quarter turn. See pics for more info.

That's the first time I have seen it done with the antenna base left in place. Didn't know that could be done.
I did it by loosening the base and pulling it down to get the nipple out of the fender, to make more room for putting in the grommet.

I'm going to try this method, I can't get my new grommet to seat all the way down--- tried disconnecting the base, lubing with silicone, etc. Of course the warm weather is now gone, so I'll have to heat it up a little with the hair dryer first.

I did mine a couple of weeks ago, tried unscrewing the antenna itself (was on there really tight) and the antenna base tip cracked right off. Had to buy a new antenna base. Whoops.
