2003 530i. Needed lots of attention, but man I love driving this thing. The ol' reliable 528i feels pokey and stiff now.
Just weeks after I finally got the CEL off and all systems go, BAM:
1 ATM fluid pouring everywhere: looks like it's the seal on the top of the steering rack. Can this seal be replaced or do I have to replace the whole rack?
2 CHECK BRAKE FLUID warning and almost no brakes. Put in a pint of DOT 4. No idea where it went. Warning came back on. Haven't found the leak so far.
3 AC belt broken after only 4 months of service.
Not sure what order these things happened (it seemed like all at once), but here's my question: are they related ?

The law does NOT determine "right" from "wrong". They are unrelated.
If you put cheap parts on your car, you will soon have a cheap parts car.
Hmmm. Collateral damage by broken belt. Not a rare thing. I will definitely look into that. Thanks.
What is "ATM fluid?" The stuff that runs the teller machine?

Automatic TransMission fluid, duh!!
You should really look into where the brake fluid went for it to be low... Then fill and bleed the system properly after fixing whatevers broken

It's that stuff that's kind of sticky on the floor right in front of the teller machine. You don't want to think too much about it. Take the money and run.
