I have a 1990 BMW 325i. I am trying to diagnose starting problems. The car struggles to start after sitting for a time (hours or overnight). The car cranks, but does not start after sitting ... If I let it crank for 10-20 seconds it will eventually start. After that, if I turn it off and restart, it comes right up.
From my reading, the crankshaft position sensor may be a culprit. I know what to test, but I am struggling to find the location of the connector. The tests require that I check the resistance at the connector.
Any guidance on how to find the connector's location will be appreciated. NOTE: I can find the crankshaft position sensor, but the wire disappears somewhere below the manifold.
the connection should be above the alternator, if I remember right. above the alt and under the edge of the intake manifold. I might be a little off, forward or side to side because its been years since I have owned an I model but I remember it being somewhere near there.
and someone else will come along and be more precise in a bit
when my 89 325i had problems with that sensor, it would only run on half the cylinders. I never had start issues from it.
No e30s again.
Thank you ... I found it!
