I have made adjustment ( bent it back into place) to the plate twice now.
For now roof is going up and down OK.
I am wondering is buying the replacement gear off of Ebay will help with the tolerance being so tight.
I really cant tell if it is really worn out - but the tolerance on that plate seems crazy critical minuscule tolerance.
The gear is a bit pricey - like $50.
Has anyone replaced just the gear and had long term success?
Or where can i get a gear on the cheap?

This car is AWESOME !!!
Have you tried sourcing the whole assembly locally? Or online? I’ve done a couple rebuilds on the window motors without a problem and those gears are plastic. If the brushes are in half decent shape, just go for the gear itself.

So there is also the matter of the other gear. Plus the bending of the plate can continue. I found it very convenient to change the whole assembly rather than mess with just the gear(s). Greg (66 6) sells used ones for reasonable prices.

Thanks - I think I'll go for the assembly since the price of the gear only seems way high at like $50.
