Rough idling and smoke out the back of exhaust

    Hi

    I own a BMW 2001 320d E46 vehicle.

Every morning when I start car the engine has a rough idle for less than a minute then idles properly for rest of day. For that 1/2 minute it puffs out blue/whitish colour smoke and then it smokes no more.

    Any ideas
    Thanks
    Gasant

If the smoking stops after the warm up phase, it shouldn't be anything major. Generally if it continues to smoke afterwards; white smoke = blown head gasket or cracked block (worse case). Blue smoke = oil burning.
