FS: 1992 850i - Black over Grey, automatic, non-running, needs TLC but is savable

This is not my car! I'm just listing it for a local friend of the BMWCCA Sonora Chapter, to which I am treasurer of.

He's sending me some new updated photos soon, and the VIN number as well. For now, here is his quick description and background story. (BTW - yes, those do appear to be real Z8 wheels!)


I am looking to sell a 1992 850 that has been sitting in my garage for a while. I'd like to try to sell whole because it would be a shame to take it apart. It was a driver up to about 2 years ago. It stalled on the interstate. I towed it home and it’s been sitting since. It was running strong at the time. No weird noises or anything. Just quit running.

About 144,000 miles on it.

I bought it from a guy in Casa Grande. It needed a lot of center console pieces which I bought new from Charlie at Gault (one heck of a guy). I then drove it for a couple of years.


The bad:

The paint is in bad shape.

It has body repair on the left rear where it got side-swiped. Damage was not bad. Mostly scratches and some minor dents.

Interior has typical dry cracking.

Tranny lines and power steering lines are leaking.

Tires are worn.

Center rear view mirror broken.



The good:

Top and bottom engine gaskets replaced.

Intake manifolds powdercoated.

All original and complete with everything still intact and all electronics worked at the time with the exception of the MID.

Eibach springs.

Absolutely no rust.

Appears to have real Z8 wheels (some curb rash)


It’s a fun car but not sure I want to continue investing time and money in it.
