153 CAN engine load signal code

Hello there so I got my engine running better but this entire time I also have the code mentioned above in my transmission and my transmission seems to be in limp mode or a state similar to limp mode and I have no idea how to figure out why so does anyone know what causes of this code to pop up any help would be much appreciated

Is the transmission module original to car? What about engine computer (DME)?

If not, what part number is it?

Also, any corrosion on the can wires of the transmission computer/dme?

Personally, I suspect a bad signal from the MAF (yes, the mass airflow sensor for the engine). The DME needs airflow data to calculate load, and give that data to the EGS (transmission). A '96 car is very poor at telling us all the needed correlations, but that's my wild-assed guess.

If you decide you need a MAF, make absolutely sure that you buy a OEM part, not some crap from Autozoo.

Do you have and codes in the DME or the ABS computers?

    That's a good point.
    What DME codes are there?

Okay so my transmission control module with the same engine control modules possibly different but that would have been changed a couple of years ago and the codes there are a couple for the engine which I'm working on right now which are a mixture deviation and a misfire and on the abs it's a transmission not coded or improperly coded I can't remember which

Please know that 328 Power 04 and I are absolutely on the same page. He is, absolutely, the best BMW computer guy I know. And I'm a fairly decent BMW tech, on a good day, anyway..

And now you've added a mixture code...

Any good BMW specific scan tool, plus a round 20-pin diag plug for your underhood connector, should give the info we need to make a reliable diagnosis, more than likely.
