Recently my 2002 520i has been dealing with the issue of my fan wanting to turn off. This car has the e39 heater control panel 6916655 installed which makes it a little unique. Early in the morning I normally have no issues but later in the day it won’t stay on for more than a few seconds. I just replaced the fan and the resistor. This car does not have a fuse that covers the fan. Should I drop $100 on a new switch or get a new battery or resistor again? What do you guys think?
Did you buy an OEM final stage resistor, or a cheap Chinese thing? The Chinese ones are often bad, right out of the box.
You certainly DO have fuses for this: If I picked the right wiring diagram, those are # 46 and #76. However, if the fan works sometimes, the fuse is a very unlikely culprit, and the Final Stage Resistor is most likely.
