BMW Z3 3.0 Coupe ABS problem

    Hello guys

I have an euro-spec BMW Z3 3.0 Coupe with M54B30 engine produced in 2001 . The car is almost stock and I have a problem with ABS unit . At the beginning the ABS system sometimes worked, sometimes did not work. After some time it stopped working at all and the ABS light was always on. I’ve replaced all sensors and that did not change anything. I’ve decided to buy another used ABS pump. After the change and a quick ride the ABS light was off and the ABS system worked normally but after let’s say 10-15 kilometers the engine automatically and self-acting goes WOT and keeps revving until I turn the engine off. I start the engine again and I can drive for another few kilometers and the problem goes back. When I unplug the ABS main plug there is no ABS and no self-acting WOT. Did you maybe have similar problem or can you guide me where should I look?

    Thank you in advance

    Regards
    Michael

Start by reading the error codes. That was the first step from the very beginning.

Yeah, I know that, but there is no diagnostic connection with ABS unit. I can connect with ECU , but cannot with ABS for unknown reason.

I would have started there, trying to figure out why you cant talk to the module, before firing the parts cannon at the car

What tools are you using exactly to read? Can you accrss other modules like airbag system?

Using the 20 pin connector under the bonnet? With the OBD2 above the pedals you can only access the DME afaik. If it still isnt accessable using INPA a faulty DSC ecu is more common than a broken ABS pump imo.

Not correct; at least with USA ABS modules, it is far more common to have a loss of communications than with the DME. To date (2001 through 2018) I have never encountered a car with which I could not communicate with the DME. My 1st Choice is to always use the 20-pin diagnostic port under the hood.

And whats the solution to an ABS module that lost communication? I also didnt ever experienced a car with a not accessable DME and I also prefer the 20 pin port if available, as mentioned previously.
