Exclamation Water Pooling Inside Rear Door After Heavy Rain!! VIDEO w/sound

Hi all, encountered a new one for me today...

Water somehow pooling inside the rear passenger door. And it's not just a little... it feels like a lot. You can definitely feel the passenger rear is much heavier than the driver rear door, and you can hear it sloshing around in there.

How do I drain this water? What caused it, and how can I prevent it from happening again?

There are drain holes in each door at the front and rear of each door. Pull the

    09 Covering right 51221928042
    http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/show...diagId=41_0717
and clean the drain holes there in the door. The coverings you can scrap, they will not fit properly anymore. Buy new ones.
    The
08 Door weather strip outer left 51221928261
08 Door weather strip outer right 51221928262
are not 100% water tight, so water which enters there the door should drain thru the drain holes at the bottom of the door.
After removing the coverings you will probably find also rust at the edges of the door. I used rust converter and repaired it when installing new coverings.

Also, the sunroof drains can clog up, and so overflow water will drip into the interior.

If you pour water into your open sunroof rails, it should drain down to the pavement under the C pillar. If it lands on your rear carpet, then you need to blow out the sunroof drain tubing.

There are postings on this topic ... which shogun will have at his fingertips!

Yes, Sir, Sunroof drains and others to be checked, location, pics https://www.bimmerforums.com/forum/s...ht=drain+holes

But in this case the water is inside the door, door drains blocked.

Door weather strip outer right 51221928262 rear you need anyway, the rubber is broken, I can see in the youtube. Exactly above the door weather strip inside of the door there are the drain holes in front and rear of the door. Clean them, better also to remove the door card and clean inside too.

My 1992 735iL right rear door was also sloshing with water.

It turned out that the rustproofing treatment had closed the drain holes, many years ago.

Surprisingly, the draining water was neither rusty nor bad smelling.

Hey guys, turns out the drains are definitely clogged. I pulled the two plastic drain(?) plugs out of the bottom of the door and it was like turning on a faucet for 30 seconds. Thankfully it wasn't rusty or foul smelling.. But I haven't had the time to blow out the drain holes with compressed air or use a pipe cleaner, because my minimal efforts with a brush and spray bottle didn't do the trick.

I'm looking into replacing all 4 door 'coverings' (Number 9 for the rear doors on this diagram) because they're not too expensive and I also want to tackle some small surface rust forming underneath those coverings before it gets bad, as well as ensure the drains are all clear.

Does anyone know which seals I need to replace on/inside the rear doors to prevent that much water from getting in the door in the first place? Or is it normal for a lot of water to pass through the door when the drains are clear and working as intended? I.e. is it the door weather-stripping/seals I should worry about or is it just the clogged drains?

I type this as a nor-easter rages outside...

check these 2 parts in your link, but the left one is anyway NLA
08 Door weather strip outer left 1 51221928261 $36.93 ENDED
    08 Door weather strip outer right 1 51221928262 $36.93

In any case water will pass into the doors and that is why there are drain holes which you have to keep clean.

Thank you Shogun! So am I really out of luck regarding part #8 on the left? With a cursory google search I had no luck finding any available.
