I have an '86 325ES. I have been battling rust that is clogging the injectors. I have replaced both fuel pumps, the fuel tank, metal feed and return lines, injectors, filter and all rubber lines. Most recently I deleted the fuel damper stuff around the external pump.
I have the fuel rail off again to clean the injector screens. I cannot think of anything else that could hold rust except for the rail itself. It doesn't look rusty inside from what I can see? Any suggestions would be appreciated!
If the car ever sat for a while and got water in the tank I suppose it could be rusting from the inside out? I would think your fuel filter would take care of that, but maybe not. That’s about all I can think of

That’s a pretty thorough list of replacement parts, so i would say the issue is in the fuel filler neck and the tube that connects to the tank itself? I do agree that the filter should be catching any possible debris before it makes it to the injectors, so one more thing to verify is that the fuel lines are not swapped at the motor or the filter, somehow allowing unfiltered gas directly into the injectors?
