    328Xi LeaKing Oil Pan Gasket

    2010 328xi wagon, 97k miles and the oil pan gasket is puking oil. Does anyone know where I can find a DYI for this 4wd? I found a few 2wd DIYs but those don't help with the transfer case mashed up against the oil pan.

    Also, why in the hell has BMW not figured out how to build an engine that doesn't leak oil from the valvecover/oil filter housing and oil pan????

    Here’s a link to the procedure;

    Make SURE it’s not the oil filter housing gasket as it’s far more common than the oil pan gasket but often looks like it is the pan leaking.

    I just bought a second hand 2005 E90 for my wife and noticed oil pooling at the bottom of engine bay (collecting on splash guard). I worked out the OFH was leaking oil and replaced the gasket, installed new oil filter and o-rings, replaced with ~4L of new oil and cleaned the under body tray. Lo' and behold, the next day I noticed there's still oil leaking onto the splash guards! Arrgh. I'm thinking engine sump leak? Any advice? I was trying to avoid taking it into the garage in the first place, but now I'm wondering whether I'm going to have to anyway. Appreciate any advice why it's still leaking, although I know it's not the rocker cover gasket. Thanks guys!

    Thank you for the link..........man that's a tough job on a 4wd. I already replaced the valve cover(entire valve cover +gasket) and the oil filter housing gaskets. When I jack the front end up and come out the next day the oil drips on the ground from the back of the oil pan. My M3 oil pan gasket gave up around 150k miles and it was pretty easy to replace.

    1800.00 later its fixed. This is a massive job, the 4wd feature makes it very involved and unless you love pain the is no way this should be done without a lift. Expect this to be needed on your 328xi at around 100k.
