i came across this link here on the forum , which indicates that the x....x352 DME's 1 and 2 should be different ? Can someone explain what it could be ?

is it the DME itself ? because when we compare chip mapping , they seem to be exactly the same… or they must have been changed by PO.

The DMEs are identical, so are the chips, and it does not matter what you swap, harnesses, boxes, or chips. If I remember right, the only difference between DME #1 and #2 is that pin 85 is grounded on the #2 box so the diagnostic software or the stomp test can tell the two apart. The xxx156 DMEs were used on early E32/E31 M70 with Bosch M1.2 Motronic systems. Later E32 750 used the same 352 DMEs as the e31 850 with M70 with M1.7 systems.
See the ETM pinout.

thanks alot shogun for info !
I have read out my original M70 850i automatic DMEs. The EPROMs are different. (i dont remember how many bytes)
Ich have a second pair of DME: 750i 09/90-11/91.
These EPROMs are also differnt. 6 Bytes.
See the pricture. (there are 12 Bytes different -> file ist doubled/stacked, because the EPROM ist double size to the bin data)
HEX - DEC
7F - 127
80 - 128
81 - 129
Car runs also fine with equal EPROMs.

If they are placed in either slot, They work the same.
